Research shows that language shift happenswithin three generations with minority immigrants(Fishman, 1991). Yet, less attention has been paid tohow this process has actually happened. It has been foundthat, within 28 months after their arrival, theamount of Mandarin Chinese used in these families isdecreasing sharply; In terms of daily communicationfunction, English is taking over Mandarin Chinese;Parental interactive strategy also tends to be movingtowards bilingual or even English.
