The author of the Commentaries on the Gallic War (consisting of 8 books) is traditionally known by the name of Julius Caesar. We know, for example, that the author of Book VIII of the Bellum gallicum is Aulus Hirtius, one of Caesar’s closest collaborators. The Gallic War is a work of propaganda, written in what we would consider today a military and political journalistic style.
