F.K. McGarry's Sing No Danny Boys for Me is a riveting story of love, hate, violence and religious persecution and intolerance set in the turbulent times. Danny is a young merchant marine officer, coming home to Ireland for a brief visit. Danny has no intention of becoming involved in the sectarian religious troubles that plague his homestead. His plan is to study for his ships master's certificate, visit his family, keep a very low profile, and then it's on to Denmark to stay with friends. That plan changes when he goes to a local restaurant one evening and meets Mary. Mary, a beautiful English woman, is the restaurant owner's daughter and the two have an immediate attraction and go to a local dance later that night. Leaving the dancehall, a shot rings out in the alleyway and three masked gunman race by, one aiming his gun at Danny as he fears Danny will be able to recognize him despite the mask. His companions stop him and the gunmen flee. After leaving Mary home Danny is arrested at an army check point. The large sum of money Danny is carrying, being on leave, leads the authorities to believe it was Danny who is responsible for the murder near the dancehall that night-payment rendered for a job done. He is thrown in jail and soundly beaten by the army. When an American journalist and news reporter become involved, they're able to clear Danny's name, and Danny is taken to a hospital to recover. There, he writes of his experience-condemning the actions of the gunman, the authorities and his countrymen, also calling the gunmen terrorists. When his writing is published in his homeland and abroad, Danny is wanted by both sides of the conflict as well as international terrorists for his condemnation of all terrorism. With Mary at his side, the two are on the run. Will Danny and Mary escape or will they die trying to clear their names, their birthright and their beliefs in humanity? McGarry writes a stunning tale of how those that fight for their beliefs walk a fine line and how those lines are all too often blurred in the name of religion. This fast-paced fiction is filled with edge-of-your-seat action, believable characters, historical relevance, and a social commentary of the devastating consequences of religious intolerance.
