It is widely acknowledged that the current situation and trends in transport are not always sustainable in Asia that coexisting developing and developed countries, probably due to the fast growing economy and the astounding speed of urbanization. This book aims to stimulate a better understanding of and indicate perspective upon the sustainable transport in Asia by focusing on the economic sustainability and environmental sustainability. As an essential research material, the book on the one hand provides a strong support for the policy makers and planners by comprehensively covering three groups of strategies which include avoid (i.e., urban form design), shift (i.e., the improvement of public infrastructure and service, paratransit promotion and travel mode shift during tourism), and improve (i.e., technology improvement and eco-building design), along with specifically considering the uncertainty of policy effects in the future; on the other hand it is very valuable for the scholars and scientists because of the diverse methodologies adopted or proposed in this book, for instance, the four-step model with feedback, discrete choice and/or continuous models, the bi-level network optimization, aggregate demand model, risk model, multi-level model, etc. Based on the data collected from around ten Asian cities including both developed and developing cities, the pathway to sustainable transport in Asia gradually becomes clear.
